 I’m super pumped to introduce the route logo for the Capes of the Canyon! First, a massive thank you goes out to Rebekka Anderson at Erosion Studio for a design that captures the bikepack experience, ecosystem, and colors of this vast cultural and natural landscape. Give her a follow and check out more of her amazing printmaking and digital art. Second, Rim Season on the South Rim Capes is here! The North Rim Capes won't be ready to ride until July 1 as the North Rim area is still melting out and strewn with downed trees. But on the South Rim, it's time to bike. Expect some lingering snowdrifts, spotty mud, and variable springtime weather, but roads are open for riding. DESIGN ELEMENTS Like the goal of the route, the image presents a bikepacking rig situated on a cape of the Grand Canyon. Bikepackers will ride out to both popular and rarely visited viewpoints of the inner gorge. Stare and take in the visual depth from these overlooks. Grand Canyon National Park is an International Dark Sky Park. Riders can expect brilliant starscapes. Equally noteworthy are the hue-spreads cast upon the rock and sky during sunset and sunrises. Both the dark skies and crepuscular colors are represented here. One of my personal favorite capes on the South Rim accessed by dirt is Shoshone Point. From here, 270 degree views of Grand Canyon vertical-plunge stretch out. This is view shown in the emblem. Finally, a California Condor is depicted. Both North America's largest bird and one of its most endangered, this species has been reintroduced to the Grand Canyon. If you're lucky, you'll spot these incredible birds flying overhead or even see them perched among rock ledges. Artwork by Erosion Studio
